stuck in my melon

i haven't for the life of me been able to get this tune out of my head since sunday when a girl was singing along to it outside the portaloos we were queing at patiently.

some dj was probably playing the madcon version at the time but it's really all about the frankie valli and the four seasons sample. i grew up listening to this music and it never fails to make me want to dance and sing. on that note the jersey boys is also an amazing show.

we had babies!

My boyfriend breeds ball's a strange hobby but i've slowly learned to love them. The frozen rats and mice in my freezer not so much. Anyway, we had five eggs which all hatched and even better three of them were albinos. They're so cute!

get loaded bank holiday sunday

We hit the get loaded in the park festival on sunday...the most fun i've had in a long time seeing as i've been trying to save money (although not very well) for the wedding which is coming around so soon i keep getting huge waves of stress wash over me. Only about the organisation though...i can't wait to marry my gorgeous boyfriend.

We saw the presets (amazing as always), nextmen, midnight juggernauts, noah and the whale, the gossip, maccabees and iggy pop who i saw at Benicassim festival last year and is amazing for an old rocker. My mate also decided to expose her breasts for him which raised a bit of a cheer from the surrounding men, we had a photo but she sneakily deleted it.

i think here is where we start looking a little worse for wear...

All in all i got stupidly wrecked and suffered for it yesterday. We basically lounged around our flat all day watching tv, unable to move until we managed to get the energy to get the boys to order chinese takeway for dinner. I still don't feel quite right today...

i wish i could see in colours too...

This week I discovered the music of Ida Maria. She's Norwegian living in Stockholm. I likey a lot. She seems to be a little crazy and is reported to have the neurological phenomenon of synesthesia, which means she sees colours when she hears music. How fun.

On another note...I am so excited about bank holiday weekend. I have been mildly virtuous recently but plan to jump head first off the rails on sunday at the Get Loaded Festival. It's official, Carnival is something else.

just a little one

well i thought i would make a small outfit post just because i think i am in love with this blazer i bought from Topshop on saturday. I hadn't intended to buy anything but i saw it, thought I'd try it on just for fun, and then decided i couldn't put it down...

and these shoes are just weird little things that i bought in camden a few weeks ago. In a way i still don't really know how i feel about them, as they kinda repulse me but at the same time i find myself strangely attracted to them...

four morning yeah whatevers

1. Dreamt about Albert Hammond Jr. last night. I actually used to be in the same class as him in school and lived across the road from him (for real). My mum keeps telling me I should get in touch with him. Mum...he's famous now, I'm not, it can never happen. Also...Agyness Deyn, why?

2. I ran out of my lovely Stella shower gel this morning and reluctantly had to use the boys Lynx. I was not impressed at the thought of smelling like a man, then remembered how at the age of 16 using mens products was perfectly acceptable. Lynx shower gel AND deodorant, "Africa" to be exact, followed by a squirt of my beloved Ralph Lauren Polo Sport (for him). Yeah, a boy I fancied at the time used to wear it...

3. The first time I have ever been amused to be stuck in traffic on my way to work. Father's For Justice had scaled one of the bridges over the M25 this morning so I got to drive past a guy dressed in a batman suit hanging off the top and waving to everybody on the motorway while the police stood below scratching their heads.

4. I've been reading through My Next Ex Boyfriend over the last couple of days (it's funny) and I noticed that my brain had decided to read with an american accent. I then tried to change back to english which just felt weird. Does anyone else do this? I remember reading Mr. Nice by Howard Marks and reading with a Welsh accent aswell...I can't even do welsh out loud.

frills & frayed edges

My dress I ordered from Topshop arrived in the post today. It's loose and comfortable and I love how the frilled edges are slightly frayed. Slightly at the moment but a lot more over time I imagine. I wonder if it will look better or worse...

It's fair to say I feel like crap today, I can't even believe how crap. I felt pretty good first thing this morning but that was because I was still drunk, not good when driving to work.
It was my mum's birthday yesterday (she's actually quite the party animal) so we went for drinks at this bar called Lounge Lover in Shoreditch which is a beautifully decorated eclectic looking warehouse type space. It was kinda quiet as it was 7pm on a Tuesday evening but we had rose champagne, sushi, and cocktails. Yum.
We left at about 8.45 and grabbed a taxi to the Macbeth pub on Hoxton St. to see my little sister play keyboard for Meme Love. Being a bit of a hipster hovel I'm not quite sure what they thought of our group of me, my boyfriend and 3 very glamorous looking mature women. We drank plenty of white wine, embarrassed my sister and my mum's friend proceeded to grab a beautiful looking boy wearing skinny jeans and a fitted plaid shirt and throw him round a make believe dance floor. I think the look on his face was a mixture of enjoyment, fear and confusion.
All in all I had a great night out with three old birds and woke up this morning without having taken off half my clothes, my jewellery or my makeup which I NEVER do. My boyfriend told me he had to undress me...I don't usually get in that much of a state.
I really want to go home and back to bed now and sleep off the feeling of having my head kicked in by 10 demented donkeys and wanting to vomit every 5 minutes. Not so yum.

Weddings, lace and ledger

So the weekend was mainly made up of trying to get things sorted for the wedding in October and trying to find the perfect suit for the groom which we found in Selfridges. It took many discussions with my boyfriend insisting he could get away with wearing a cheap suit from M&S which he bought a couple of weeks ago and then decided was itchy and horrible and that he would give in to the beautiful D&G one he tried on originally. I'm so pleased he did because in my humble opinion he looks absolutely gorgeous in it. I also secretly bought some Jo Malone grapefruit perfume for my mum as it's her birthday tomorrow...I hope she likes it. After the three of us (me, boyfriend, mum) finished stuffing our faces with food at YO! Sushi and polishing off a couple of bottles of white wine we had a quick browse of the Topshop concession downstairs and I bought myself this black blazer and my lovely mum insisted on buying me the lace bolero that I had admired on elisabeth from Thrills & Frills, how could I say no?
++++++++ +++++
On Sunday me and the boy went to see the new Batman film The Dark Knight and although I absolutely loved every minute of it I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that even though I thought the late Heath Ledger was wonderfully sinister I didn't think his performance was as Oscar worthy as everyone is saying it is, but maybe that's just me being a contrary mary.

When boredom strikes

I shop.

I was so bored at work yesterday afternoon until I checked my emails to find Topshop had added a futher 700 items to their sale. I thought it would be rude not to so I decided to go ahead and buy a silk tie dye coverup for when I go on my honeymoon to Dubai in October (I can't wait!) and I was definately in need of a new LBD which you can never go wrong with so I bought this frill one with frayed edges which I remember looking really pretty last time I was in the Oxford St store.

********** **********
I also decided to bid on these ankle cowboy boots on ebay which I wasn't massively sure on at first but am now really hoping I win.

When I got home the boyfriend had gone for afterwork drinks with collegues so I had a nice peaceful evening on the sofa with the new issue of Elle and a mug of tea. Usually I hate being alone but sometimes it's needed and nice to be able to read without being distracted.

Tramp Styles

While out on my morning run today before work I came across what I thought was the most ingenious idea ever. Coming up behind some grotty looking tramp I noticed he was wearing what to me seemed like a pair of jersey hareem pants from afar, and thought that was perhaps a little stylish for a homeless guy, but as I got closer I realised he was wearing a jumper as a pair of trousers? I wish I'd had my camera on me but just to show what I mean I had a quick trial myself with one of my boyfriends sweaters. Unfortunately I think the tramp pulled it off slightly better than I do here but just goes to prove the old saying "It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it."

JR : Photographer / Street Artist

Cartagena, Spain

I first came across this guys work unknowingly on a trip to the Tate Modern for the Street Art exhibition. On the outside of the building is a HUGE image of a young man aiming a gun, along
with work from various other artists. What really caught my attention though was a particular post from Wooster Collective about some of his most recent work in Cartagena, Spain, where he has wheat-pasted giant photos of the old people who live there.

"In it, tradition, the ancient town and its inhabitants history are gathered with the passing of time marks. They are "the town faces" and "the facades of its characters".In each wrinkles of its inhabitants and in each chink of its buildings, everyday life has been printed as well as longings and illusions of population and the town to build future."

In a time where we are constantly being told more or less that beauty = youth it is refreshing to see how truly beautiful and magnificent age and wrinkles can be. I love how these images are so huge you can see every detail the way nature intended, but on a slightly hypocritical note, I personally can't help but not really look forward to it myself.

You can find more of his work here.

"Cactus Kid"

I love this advert for Oasis, I would definitely run away with Cactus Kid for road trip style adventures across America. Driving down an empty highway with nothing but desert on either side for miles. Living off of cigarettes and beer apart from when we stop in a grotty diner full of rednecks to drink coffee and eat blueberry pie.

There is actually a YouTube page here were you can watch the second installment of the 3 part ad (apparently there will be an online competition for how the story ends) and also a mini video blog by the runaway girl.

Finally my camera

"Brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favourite things"

I finally picked up my Holga camera from the Post Office on Saturday morning. Because I'm sad and a sucker for pretty packaging, I was almost as impressed with the brown paper wrapping and string as I was with the item itself.
